报告人简介:

Zhiwei (Luke) Luo:

Luke is a scientist at the NZ Institute for Bioeconomy Science. He obtained a Bachelor of Biotechnology from South China Agricultural University and a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Auckland. Since joining HortResearch in 2005, he has worked on plant physiology, transformation, and developmental biology in horticultural crops. His research focuses on the genetic and molecular regulation of meristem development and shoot branching, particularly under drought stress. Luke has published in leading plant science journals and currently serves as a Council Member of the NZ Society of Plant Biologists and an Associate Editor of the NZ Journal of Crop and Horticultural Science.

报告主要内容:

Shoot branching is a key determinant of plant architecture and crop productivity, regulated by developmental signals, environmental cues, and hormones such as strigolactones, auxin, and cytokinins. As climate change and new production systems drive demand for new plant shapes, understanding and controlling branching has become increasingly important. This presentation will start with an introduction of BSI and provide an overview of shoot branching regulation. He will highlight more than two decades of research by their team, including the identification of branching genes, characterisation of strigolactone signalling components, and studies of environmental regulation. He will also discuss his recent research on axillary bud growth potential and present an example of translating discoveries from model systems into crop improvement.
